Canada will play Switzerland on Sunday in the Women’s World Cup 2015 Round of 16, with both teams fighting it out for the place in the quarter finals of the tournament. The game has a scheduled start time of 7.30 p.m. ET and can be watched on TV on the Fox Sports 1 network. The game can also be watched online through live stream via the link below.

The knock out rounds have begun and that means there is no room for error for any of the teams remaining in the competition. Especially for Canada, if they want to stun the world and go all the way in their home World Cup then they will have to deliver four straight wins from here on out.

Things start today with a do-or-die game against Switzerland – a talented but inconsistent team so far at the World Cup.

This will be Switzerland’s first ever knock out match at the Women’s World Cup, and coming up against a host nation is always a difficult prospect. They will be hoping to upset the home fans today and try and go even further than they dared believe prior to the tournament kicking off.

Canada meanwhile have looked good at times but have not looked the world-beaters that everyone in the host nation is hoping they can become. They opened up Group A with a 1-0 win over China, but could only follow that up with consecutive draws against New Zealand and Holland. Even the one victory over China only came via an injury time penalty kick, and their draw against New Zealand was only secured thanks to a missed penalty for the visiting team.

However, despite all the ups and downs of the group stages, they come into today’s match up as an unbeaten team and with a very good opportunity to progress to the quarter finals.

Canada will fancy their chances against an inexperienced Switzerland team, and especially in front of a sold out home crowd they should prove to be too much for the European team.

The Swiss team themselves have also had a rollercoaster ride through the group stages. Despite battling hard against reigning world champs Japan they lost their opener 0-1. They bounced back from that game in amazing fashion, demolishing Ecuador 10-1. However, their optimism was short-lived as they fell to Cameroon 1-2 in their final group game, leaving them lingering in third place in Group C.

That was good enough to see them qualify for the Round of 16 though, as they were one of the best third-place finishers. However, it also ensures they have a difficult path through the knock out stages, beginning with today’s game against the host nation.

There have been four previous games between these two teams, with Canada winning three of them and there being one draw. However, their most recent game was all the way back in 2013, in the Cyprus Cup. In that game, Canada came out as 2-0 winners with goals from Sophie Schmidt and Diana Matheson.

Switzerland, ranked No. 19 in the world, will be hoping to cause an upset today, however, Canada, ranked 11 placed above them as 8th in the world, should be too much for them if they play to their potential.
