13. Never Recover (feat. Drake)Lil Baby and Gunna have barely hit their stride, and yet we speak of them in respective terms as album of the year candidates, or at least within an earshot of a functioning short list. Gunna’s Drip Season 3 flooded the market in February to a wide and colorful range of compliments, giving him credence next to Young Thug’s commanding presence in ATL rap.
To a lesser degree, Lil Baby’s Harder Than Ever had the same effect, to the point where both men figure in the conversation of rap confluence. It only helps that Gunna and Lil Baby are of one mind when it comes to meeting in the middle of their core strengths: mellifluous flow and a persistent rhythmic drive.
Gunna and Lil Baby’s upcoming collaborative project Drip Harder is set to drop tomorrow (October 5th) through YSL and Capitol Records; the tracklist kept under wraps until the very last minute, with the earliest sign emerging out of Apple Music’s international market release, viewable here. The aforementioned Drake collab is present at no. 13, as is a double-feature with Lil Durk and Nav on the opening track. What are your reasonable expectations for the project as a whole?
Lil Baby and Gunna are giving their fans something to look forward to at the end of this week. The Atlanta rappers’ joint project, Drip Harder, will release on Friday (Oct. 5).
Ahead of the project’s release, Lil Baby, who starred in a documentary called Preacherman last week, shared the cover art for Drip Harder in an Instagram post on Monday (Oct.1). “10-5-18 Drip Harder ! I’m Ready Lol !!” he wrote as the caption.
Gunna also teased the release on social media. “Drip Harder 10-5-18 ‼️ Drop a 💦👶🏽 If U Ready 😬🐍🔥 ‼️” he wrote on Instagram.Fans have been waiting patiently for this release date. Last month, the duo dropped what appears to be the lead single, “Drip Too Hard,” which is produced by Turbo.
Young Thug, a noted fan of the two, went on his Instagram page to share his excitement over the duo’s latest offering. The mixtape has high expectations to meet after Young Thug said in his Instagram story that the project will surpass Lil Wayne’s long-awaited Tha Carter V album. “I’m Wayne’s biggest fans but not goin be harder than ‘HARDER’ by @gunna & @lilbaby_1,” Thug wrote as the caption to his Instagram post.
The two Drip Harder creators linked up earlier this year on Lil Baby’s Harder Than Ever project, on the song “Life Goes On” featuring Lil Uzi Vert. The 17-track LP went all the way to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. “This like Harder Than Ever, it’s the name of it, but that’s what I’m on. To me, I’m on a whole different level of rapping,” Lil Baby said when discussing the work to Hot 107.9.
Aside from the new project, Gunna will be joining Trippie Redd and Sheck Wes on Travis Scott’s upcoming Astroworld: Wish You Were Here Tour, on Nov. 8. The 27-date tour will visit fans from Miami, Atlanta, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles and many more cities.
Lil Baby and Gunna are the latest rappers to pair up for a joint project. Following several smash collabs, the Atlanta duo announced a full-length today (Sept. 12) titled Drip Harder.
The news comes one day after the release of what serves as the project’s lead single, “Drip Too Hard.” The up-tempo, Turbo-produced track finds the pair exchanging sly melodic stunts over a western-tinged guitar loop.“Drip too hard, don’t stand too close/You gon’ fuck around and drown off this wave/Doing all these shows, I’ve been on the road/Don’t care where I go long as I get paid,” Baby’s hook goes.
The formal union between Quality Control and Young Stoner Life’s respective phenoms follows a streak of successful partnerships over the last six months.Lil Baby’s Gunna and Lil Uzi Vert-featuring “Life Goes On,” which appeared on Baby’s May mixtape Harder Than Ever, spent six weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. (The tape peaked at No. 3 on the album chart.) Young Thug’s “Chanel (Go Get It),” which features Baby and Gunna, debuted at No. 78, proving to be the most successful single from YSL’s recent compilation tape, Slime Language.
Drip Harder’s release date has not yet been announced. In the meantime, Gunna will be joining Trippie Redd and Sheck Wes on Travis Scott’s upcoming Astroworld: Wish You Were Here Tour, set to launch on Nov. 8.
