The performance aptly opened with “Jumpsuit,” a new song from Twenty One Pilot’s upcoming fifth album Trench, out October 5th. The pulsating song, which shifts between heavy rock tones and acoustic whispers, recounts an apocalyptic tale, a story revealed in the track’s music video, which also features the car in flames. That was the initial mood set by the Ohio duo, and the visually driven conceptual aesthetic played out through “Levitate,” another new one. But this concert wasn’t simply about unveiling new material or in reveling in end-of-days imagery. Instead, the musicians made the night about the fans who have waited so long for their return.

In his first interview since twenty one pilots returned from their year-long break, frontman Tyler Joseph has opened up in a half-hour chat with Zane Lowe on Beats 1.
The two caught up at Tyler’s home studio where the majority of new record Trench was recorded, discussing everything from his faith and how that ties into music, to their forthcoming full-length and how fans have helped him to build the fantastic world surrounding it. Bonus: we’ve even gotten an extra little insight into the album, with Tyler revealing the final line of Trench’s last track Leave The City: ‘They know what I mean.’

Twenty One Pilots are the critically acclaimed duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun.
The first four Trench tracks, from hard rocker “Jumpsuit” to reggae-tinged “Nico and the Niners,” point to a sonically diverse album. “One of the coolest things about Josh and Tyler is their ability to tackle any genre without flinching,” says Andrew Donoho, who directed the “Jumpsuit” video. “I can’t say much [more] without Tyler burning my house down, but there are many surprises to come.”
Tyler told the adoring audience: “we are coming back in March to play a full thing. And we just thought maybe tonight-there’s two sold out nights already happening…sold out in like three hours, which is unbelievable. But right now, I’m announcing – I talked to Josh on the way over here today and said, “Hey, let’s do a third night” so we’re gonna do a third night.”
The setlist was every twenty one pilots fan’s dream – if we could have written it for them, this is exactly what we would have come up with. They played their greatest hits from Blurryface and Vessel as well as giving us live debuts of new tracks from their forthcoming record, Trench.
In 2015, Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph’s blockbuster Blurryface hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Top Rock and Alternative Albums charts. Three years later — after a quiet first half of 2018 on social media — the duo tweeted in August that it was “ready to stop babying this little guy and let him go.” That little guy is Trench, the album out Oct. 5.
Ahead of the release of their new album, Trench, Twenty One Pilots have announced that they will be signing copies of their album in select HMV stores across the UK.
The signing sessions will take place around the same time as the band’s headline UK arena tour next February and March.
